| Identifies a character's background or plot details. |

| adopted | Is adopted or otherwise taken in by characters who are not blood relatives. |
| age_shift | Can change their bodies age appearance at will (Ex: A Child that can change into an adult, an elderly adult who can change into a young adult.) |
| amnesia | Has either forgotten their memories, or had them taken away somehow. |
| artificial_life | A life form created by science or magic. |
| artist | Is involved in the arts somehow as a profession, usually as a painter or sculptor. Often brings his or her work into their fighting style in some way. |
| assassin | Killing is their business, and business is good. |
| bait | Has been kidnapped, or otherwise held against their will as ransom. |
| beautiful | Physical beauty is a part of their plot or personality (a model, narcissist, etc). |
| biker | Known to ride or otherwise associated with motorcycles |
| celebrity | Well known as a movie star, pop musician, etc. |
| child | Preteen or otherwise childlike in appearance/behavior. |
| christian | Associated with the religion of Christianity. |
| cloned | These characters have been the DNA source of genetic clones at least once (if not more). |
| clown | A clown or jester-like character. |
| cook | Known to have some culinary skill (or not, but insists on trying). |
| crime_boss | High level mafia type; shadowy and above the law. |
| criminal | Known for breaking the law. |
| cyborg | Normal human with parts augmented or replaced by robotic substitutes. |
| darkside | An evil "alternate" version of a character. |
| deceased | Not to be confused with undead, a character who is dead according to the relevant storyline. |
| deity | A god or demi-god. |
| demonic | A demon, devil, or other denizen of some nether plane--or a humanoid manifestation of one. |
| diseased | Suffers from some disease. Not to be confused with deceased. |
| eastern_monk | A holy man of an eastern religion such as Shintoism or Buddhism. |
| ecologist | The character is concerned with ecosystems as a whole (people, plants, animals) and want to protect the environment. |
| elven | A member of a magical Germanic brood known as elves. Sometimes diminutive, they are often seen in fantasy yarns, or in the company of Santa Claus. This tag can also just apply to a human or human-like character who has unusually pointy ears. |
| ex-champion | Former king of the hill, stripped of his notoriety in the wake of scandal. |
| framed | Characters that have been accused/persecuted/imprisoned/killed for crimes they did not commit. |
| fusion | The physical combination of two or more characters. |
| generic | A character who does not represent an individual, but instead a generic, nameless character such as a species as a whole or faceless minion. |
| historical_person | Despite any ridiculous creative embellishments, based on a historical individual. |
| imposter | A person who pretends to be somebody else, who imitates or copies the behavior or actions of another character for trying to assume his identity . |
| imprisoned | Has been arrested or kept in captivity at one point or another, or in some cases, is still in either situation. |
| japanophile | Enamored with all things Japan, strives to be more Japanese. |
| kyokugen | User of SNK's fictional kyokugen karate martial art. |
| lover | Has romantic desires with another character that's actually mutual (and in some cases is actually in a romantic relationship with one of the other characters.) |
| mecha | A piloted mechanized vehicle rather than a remote controlled or sentient robot. |
| medic | In the business of healing. |
| mercenary | Military type with allegiance to no particular country or agency. |
| merchant | A character whose vocation involves selling items. |
| middle_aged | Characters whom are/seem to be in their 40's or 50's they are not exactly young but not old enough to be seniors yet. |
| military | Soldier or ex-soldier associated with an official military or mercenary unit. |
| mind_control | Adept at controlling the minds of others. |
| minion | Works for (or otherwise serves) another character with greater ambition. |
| musician | Involved in the playing of music, either seen in game or external storyline material. |
| orochi | Affiliated with the mythical Japanese serpent known as Yamatano (or Yamato no) Orochi. The character may be involved in SNK's fictional Orochi pantheon, closely affiliated with Naruto's Orochimaru, or have some other ties to the slithering beast of legend. |
| orphaned | Both of the character's biological parents are deceased. |
| parent | Father or mother to one or more children. |
| photographer | Proficient with a camera or utilizes photography in their fighting style. |
| pilot | Helms some sort of plane / ship / mecha. |
| pirate | Involved in piracy and general swashbuckling activities. |
| police | Associated with law enforcement. |
| politician | Someone who was elected into office (president, mayor, governor, senator, prime minister, et cetera). |
| possessed | Possessed by a spirit or demon. |
| revenge | Revenge is a known part of this character's storyline. |
| revived | Was noted or portrayed as dead in one game only to appear alive and well (not undead) in a chronologically later installment, often without explanation. |
| robot | An artificial life form with no organic parts. |
| royalty | Is heir to or member of some royal family or bloodline. |
| school_worker | A character who works at a school, such as a teacher, principal, professor, janitor, etc. |
| scientist | Skilled in certain fields of science usually Robotics or Genetics or Chemicals. (Are also often "Mad" Scientists as well.) |
| senior | Very old, senior citizen. |
| senseicide | A character who has killed their master or sensei. |
| teen | Teenaged character. |
| time_traveler | A character who has come from the past or future through some method of time-traveling (time machines and portals are used as a rule). |
| traitor | Treachery is a known part of this character's back story |
| true_power | A manifestation of a character's true power, without necessarily changing alignment. |
| twins | Character has an identical or fraternal twin sibling (or, incrementally, triplet, quadruplet, et cetera). |
| ugly | Lack of physical beauty is a part of their plot or personality. |
| undead | Ghoul, zombie, skeleton, ghost, etc. |
| unlucky | Is frequently known to have a lot of bad things happen to them on a regular basis (regardless of whether they deserve it or not). This is generally either played for laughs or sympathy. |
| unrequited_love | Its implied/openly shown that this character is truly in love with one certain other character but the romance remains perpetually unrequited. (Whether if the other character is too oblivious/uninterested.) This has became a known part of their character story that hasn't changed. |
| vampire | Blood sucking children of the night. |
| wealthy | An upper-class fighter, often taking a more fast and loose approach to the martial arts than the less fortunate. |
| widowed | A character who had a spouse or love interest that has died. |
