Say what? It's no fluke. (1/3/2011 : 9:38:58 PM)

That's why we post here once a year.

Obviously we've been chugging along on the site without the boss posting any updates. I can't even remember what's been added/changed/fixed/broken/fixed again this past year. Most recently, we've come up with a new way to display both conversational dialogue and slideshow-style endings (Scenes).

Also eternally diligent FABber The S has created a Facebook group for the site, that can be found here.

Fenix Navidad and a FABy New Year (1/1/2010 : 2:28:05 AM)

I'm not much for holidays, but you guys have been kicking ass and taking names on the submissions around here as of late, so I thought I'd bust my administrative hump and give something back. So here are arena and move tags, since everyone seems to like tagging so much. I'll have a full feature load / explanation on the forums (in the morning), right now my buzz is wearing off and I'm starting to feel tired again.

Everyone have a good start to their new year, and thanks, as always, for supporting the site.

-F.

Welcome back to the stage of history (8/26/2009 : 5:18:22 PM)

If you're reading this, you've already taken note of our fancy pants new News page. Its no secret I despised the old format pretty hardcore, but only recently did I come up with a redesign I hated less. So here it is, I hope you like it.

The full load of details will be on the forums, but everything is pretty straight forward. As always, if you're bugged in any way, let me know. Enjoy.

-F.

Rain of blood shall rain down today. (5/6/2009 : 9:45:14 AM)

Anybody attending the site in the past, oh 48 hours or so will notice there has been sufficient chaos all along the board. I am fast at work to get these issues remedied, but one unfortunate side effect was the death of a lot of submissions. Therefore, if you've subbed anything that isn't showing feel free to resub and we'll get them online just as soon as possible.

Thanks,

-F.

New Age of Heroes (1/8/2009 : 11:04:24 AM)

There is pretty much constant change around here nowadays, usually for the better. Things were kind of absurd there for a minute, and I recommend that if you got here from an offsite link, or an old bookmark, you head to our formal starting page and relink - bookmark / navigate from there.

The update column on the right is constantly updated with whatever our awesome band of subbers have brought to the FAB table, and I keep a fairly detailed list of updates / upgrades to the site on the forums.

Speaking of forums, its a great place to report bugs and problems, and generally stay on top of site developments. On the off chance you have an aversion to suddenlaunch or forums in general, you can reach me at fenix-at-fenixware-dot-net.

As always, there is more awesome on the horizon, so keep on checking back and thanks for reading.

-F.

Behold. . . Optic Blast! (7/23/2008 : 12:48:10 PM)

If you're reading this you've probably already seen the new index page. In short, since the costume migration went so well (re: not well) and I've had such spectacular help (big thanks, S) in the catch up arena, I decided to make the switch.

If it weren't absolutely obvious I'm nowhere near done with all the page upgrades, but I could not longer stomach operating on two versions of the truth. I figure, if anything major breaks maybe we'll actually get some forum activity!

Regardless, I am maintaining a fab 3.0 thread there for every single update I make to the site, so if you're curious give it a look.

As always, more to come and thanks for supporting.
-F.

Errors and Costumes and Redirects oh my! (6/18/2008 : 10:21:05 AM)

God bless this mess, right? As I continue to undo the design sins of the old site, sometimes pages wind up a little bent and other times entirely broken. In such cases where there is no possible reconciliation, I am prematurely redirecting outdated pages to their 3.0 revamps.

While harder, better, faster, and stronger in format there are a few cases where the revamps are missing valuable content. Take a look at costumes, if you want to see what I mean.

I only ask that you bear with me while I make the site makes its transition (its worth it, trust me), and report any wierdness on the forums.

Thanks,
The Management

You want me to hurt you some more!? (4/4/2008 : 1:15:43 PM)

By now you've probably noticed some wierd stuff popping up on the ole' content ticker next door. Well, thats what happens when you migrates to a new design but keeps the old update database. What you're missing is updates done to the new pages, that will remain 'invisible' until the site switches over to the 3.0 design at some point in the whenever I get it done future. If you'd like a sneak peak at just what sort of progress is being made on the 3.0 front, head over to this thread (http://fenixware.suddenlaunch.com/index.cgi?board=fab&action=display&num=1202483107). I've been keeping it up to date with all the news pages as they get done, so you approve observe, then approve or disprove in my general digital direction as you please.

As if it needs to be said, there's still way more to come.
-F.

You Can't Give It Up (1/29/2008 : 1:28:30 PM)

It was right around this time last year that first year fab started metamorphisizing into what you see now, and now the update train is rolling again.

For compatibilities sake, I'll be rolling out the upgrades steadily instead of a lump update, so you may find some pages changed, and others missing entirely in your travels. I recommend you keep http://www.fenixware.net/fab/ as your starting point, and trust to the menus buttons for navigation as opposed to bookmarks and favorites until the dust clears.

I'll try to keep this page up to date when something actually changes, so you can drop us feedback on the forums and as always, suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.
-F.

Wubba Wubba (9/7/2007 : 2:45:38 PM)

Not quite as productive as weeks past, but still been at it. Most recent improvements have been hinged about the administrative side of things, since this is the first time the submission system has been publicly stress tested. Since last post, more changes have been made to the new credit pages, moveslist pages, and main pages. The master games page can now listed by each games release date, and characters can be filtered by listed voice actors. My sights are presently set upon the relationships pages, so expect to see some significant development there in the near future.

Enjoy,
-F.

Has the evil king returned back? (8/14/2007 : 4:48:13 PM)

Okay, new credit system is finally functional. See the recognition link under the main menu, or just click the links at the bottom of all our pages. Gameplay data has been seperated out onto its own "How to Play" page since a lot of games are starting to have a lot of it. There will be more developments on that front in the near future. There is also a neat new selection option for the games page, you can now look at all the fighting games on FAB by their release dates. Of course that all depends on how accurate our data is, but clearly this will be a step in the right direction.

More is on the horizon, as always.
-F.

Requiem for 50,000 People (8/10/2007 : 5:17:17 PM)

To say that I've been busy would be quite an understatement, but I think for the most part its paying off. For starters, you will notice that all of the visual themes have the pretty gradients jumping off. Or maybe you don't, because I've also given viewers the ability to turn off the new "imbelishments" in favor of the more classic looking sight. All of which can be set here. I have also fixed a long standing bug with release dates for game subs and they are no longer starred as mandatory. Speaking of subs, you can now submit images to the site if you feel so inclined.

Lastly, since a great deal of our bio subs have birthdates with years, I have changed the way birthdate rankings work to calculate how actually old a character is in real years, which you can see in action here.

On the content side of things, I have made a few more stabs at the wealth of Fighter Mania data willed to me from Siegfried, Mortis has been digging deep in star gladiator land, and a new contributor The S has descended upon us with a wealth of info here and there as well.. as always, you can track our efforts in the column to the right.

Enjoy,
-F.

Handsome fighters never lose battles. (8/6/2007 : 1:10:41 PM)

Depending on what you're looking at with which browser, and using one of our fancy shmanshy themes you may have noticed some change around here as of late. My growing understanding of CSS has enabled some nifty use of gradients here and there (though you'll only notice if using the Goenitz theme so far) and there are now tool tips for all the terminology and tag links. I've also played with the way a lot of stuff looks like just for grins and giggles, so if you have an opinion, drop on by the forums and share it.

-F.

A Rowdy as Rough and Wild as a Winter Storm (7/3/2007 : 4:02:42 PM)

Haven't been able to keep up with weekly news updates but I assure you, the site is still growing.

I've added pictures to the right side content updates, and I've added a trivia search to the menu up above. Numerous other tweaks about as well as a lot of content what with the flurry of Soul Calibur, Tekken, and KoF news of late. Fixed some code that allowed links to character pages that don't exist.

I've also added a relationships table to character bios, which tracks lineage and also master/student relationships for characters. Not too many people have them done, but I am working to remedy that.

Credit has been beefed up again, nifty images for me and Mortis, anyone else who subs and wants one email me and it shall be done. It's also linked to the new credit page which lists reviews done by the creditor. It'll eventually show approved subs too.

Stay Tuned.
-F.

I seem to have forgotten what I have. (6/12/2007 : 12:17:51 PM)

You'll notice the search feature up above, now you can search our entire listing of quotes for "disease called life" or "weenie" any time you like. I've also added a "Similar Games" feature to the games pages that functions not unlike the same feature on character pages. Lastly, character moveslists have been modified so you can now view moves as characters earned them in games, or just see what moves they had in a particular game.

Content wise, I was given a hefty donation from Siegfried of Fighter Mania fame, and will be assimilating all of his data as I have the time. My usual plot based submissions will be rolling in steadily and I'm sure ExMortis will eventually come about with something people actually want to see like costumes, quotes, appearances or arenas.

And of course there's some hot stuff on the horizon as usual, just as soon as I figure out how to code it (=.

Enjoy,
-F.

Do as you like, its not my job to kill you. (6/7/2007 : 1:02:42 PM)

In lieu of having a few more subbers and a lot more viewers, I think its time to re-address the sites crediting system, so that is my next major goal. So far I have cleaned up the page footers so you'll no longer see nonsense like "Content Credits: Fenix,Dream Maker,Fenix,Dream Maker,ExMortis,Fenix,ExMortis".

Next up I want to do individualized pages listing creditor submissions like we used to have only, functional and worth reading. I'd also like to have some form of special thanks page for all the websites that have donated or had images borrowed from them, or other information resources that can't adequately be documented on the pages.

Stay tuned.
-F.

We must stop this deadly alliance! (5/31/2007 : 2:25:57 PM)

Sure, I'll keep this news thing up for a bit.

Since they closed the English section down, Namco's done a pretty poor job of keeping Tekken Official up to date, but SD Tekken has kept us abreast of everything Tekken 6 related they've released.

On the other side of the coin, Smash Bros.com was just recently renovated and they have kicked off a Super Smash Bros. Brawl daily update series, presumably clinging to that preposterous summer release date they gave us last November.

And if you didn't notice a new character was added to KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A's roster, a female Lin copy named Xiao Lon. Ugh.

-F.

Do your job! (5/23/2007 : 10:16:47 AM)

Meanwhile, in the world of fighting games, SNK Playmore has put up the official site for KoF Maximum Impact Regulation A.

There's not much there for you if you don't read japanese, and even if you do, there's little game content just the basic story and some insider info from Falcoon. As it relates to fab, here is our page for KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A. Enjoy.

-F.

It's useless to resist. (5/1/2007 : 11:41:29 AM)

A great deal of developments have uh. . . developed since this was last updated. Character tagging, character rankings, arenas, move labels and exclusions, and a lot of formatting changes are all new. Submissions have been repaired and added for just about every type of content we have here. Mortis and I have been busting our humps putting up new content all around, which you can probably see pretty clearly to the right. And probably a number of other things I slaved over but have since forgotten. There's plenty more wacky new developments on the horizon, drop on by the forums if you want to weigh in.

-F.

Ah...ah... Ah...ah... Argh... Oh Gaaaaaaaawd! (2/4/2007 : 1:00:04 AM)

It has been a turbulent couple of months for me and Mortis but we can finally call this update a go. FAB 2.0, if you really want to call it that, is officially open.

In short, we took what little feedback we've been given and a lot of our own impressions and tried to improve the site in every way. Every page on the site has been signficantly redesigned to take advantage of the new ideas we have cooked up and/or are in the process of cooking up, so go ahead and take a look see even if you already have, might see something new.

The submission system has also been redesigned to be more user friendly and efficient. Even if you don't have a head full of useless fighting game knowledge, you can still make your mark by submitting a review for any character, game, or series in the database.

As always, we can be reached on the forums for glowing praise, object suggestion, seething hate, and the entire spectrum of feedback inbetween.

Enjoy, and thanks for playing.
-F.

Ghost Reporting (1/3/2007 : 2:16:10 AM)

Content/image updates have been proceeding at a steady clip, but all the hot web design action is now happening on the upcoming redesign here. Hit the forum with any criticism or suggestion while we're still working on it.

-Ex.

What? Can't get up? (10/13/2006 : 4:34:51 PM)

Haven't been as prolific about submitting news as I probably should be, but the site updates are rolling out left and right. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon hit this week, and I've been making sure all related entries are properly filled out. My next major target sitewise will be / is moveslists which should eventually support both chain type moves and also allow game moveslists. Come on down to the forums if you want to add to ExMortis' ever increasing list of things for me to fix, stick around and sub something, or just enjoy the ambience.
-F.

So wait, now we're a news site too? (9/29/2006 : 3:57:34 PM)

As of this writing, all of the plot stuff is now subbable, sagas, events, plots, profiles, the whole nine. I have also made a number of tweaks / fixes as reported on the forums. Go there and post, stay here and enjoy. Just do it!

-F.

Breaking News from AM Show (9/14/2006 : 6:46:41 AM)

SNK has announced King of Fighters: Maximum Impact Alternative, an arcade version of MI2/2006 running on Taito's Type X hardware. Ash Crimson joins the cast for this version.
Additionally, a new Samurai Spirits title (presumably in 3D) and KOFXII were announced. Samurai Spirits: Unknown Kanji was displayed in the form of a CG movie recreating SS1's introduction, and for XII, only a logo was shown.
Continue to count on FAB for all your fighting game news! Well, maybe not. (source: random Youtube)

Not even a workout! (9/7/2006 : 11:29:49 AM)

Just dropping in so you don't think I've jumped ship. Don't hesitate to click that Updates link to see the unbridled terror that is Mortis' ability to populate this thing. I've been working (slowly) on some behind the scenes stuff, namely page formatting, database fixes, and the creditting and submissions system.

Profile subs should be rocking by this evening, but right now I've got homework to do.
-F.

is it hot in here, or is it just me? (8/17/2006 : 1:39:20 PM)

I may not be as fast or as diligent as our man Mortis but this old horse still has some fight in him. Killer Instinct is online, more random updates to Street Fighter, a host of pictures, and both the terminology page and all the terminology links throughout the site have been retreated. More semi-invisible fixes to the submissions system to come.

-F.

Violent fighting to return again! (8/11/2006 : 2:16:48 PM)

I've returned from my pseudo-cation and brought the new and improved reviews system with me. You can now submit reviews for any series, game, or character all from the same form.

Other broken systems to be remedied and newer systems to be brought online soon, stay tuned.
-F.

Millenium Battle 1000 (8/9/2006 : 1:44:54 AM)

Thanks in part to my obsessive-compulsive disorder, we've now hit 1,000 characters total in the Fight-A-Base. Lucky 1K is none other than Capcom's... Unknown Soldier?! A striker-only character with one appearance, but a personal favorite of mine nonetheless.

If anyone's out there besides me and Fenix, post up on the forum, or better yet, submit something.

-Ex.

Down for the count, gutter trash! (7/31/2006 : 12:20:31 PM)

In honor of having invited a bunch of my friends to check out the sites new look / functionality, I have decided to get started on, you know, actually putting some content up! So, for the next few days (I will be out of town for this weeks update day) I will do as much populating of the Street Fighter sections as possible.

Hope you like Street Fighter, chumps.
-F.

The mark of my divinity shall scar thy dna. (7/24/2006 : 10:18:40 AM)

So much new stuff. Game Trivia, Series Trivia, Subs re-instated, the Updates Tab of this page, and all the great content updates by ExMortis.

More pictures, content, and stuff in general coming soon.

-F.

Feel the wrath of a god (7/6/2006 : 1:52:09 PM)

Let me formally unveil the new "costume" character section, take a look at any World Heroes or Asura Blade character to see it in action (much love to ExMortis).

I would also port your eyes in the direction of the new terminology section. It makes my inability to choose apt colors all the more apparent, but its hella functional, which was more my goal. Any aesthetic majors want to queer eye my site up?

My next goal is the re-instatement of submissions and some actual content, so we can start filling these spectacular pages with actual data.

More to come.
-F.

You've got a lot to learn before you beat me (7/2/2006 : 12:35:26 PM)

Boy, that was a frightening couple of minutes wasn't it? Links broken, frames broken, formatting errors, the whole nine.

I believe everything has been updated to make use of these two frames now, so there shouldn't be any problems, I also nuked the left frames size a bit at ExMortis' request, I think its a change for the better.

I'm presently working on another new character section which should be done in time for this weeks update.

-F.

dreams don't die! (7/1/2006 : 11:50:35 PM)

Sorry for the prolonged absence (if anybodys actually watching), but I'm back. Most of this update is aesthetic, I haven't had a chance to get back to the synopsis submissions.

Of note, I have changed the way the "master" pages work to kind of justify that frame over there to the left, unfortunately I didnt' get to do all the actual underlying pages, which means things might get a little hairy if you're the type to actually go for links as opposed to forward/back button.

Expect more change on the horizon.
-F.

Get lose, you can't compare with my powers. (6/12/2006 : 11:46:33 AM)

You may notice some new "of the moments" above, in light of ExMortis' numerous updates in those departments. Also, user submitted character synopsis are ready to go, though only Captain Kidd (World Heroes) really illustrates the thing. Llinrac also added a few last week, which were approved and uploaded.

There are more updates brewing (game synopsis for start), and I have made some other tiny changes you might notice, but I wanted to get some of this online before something catastrophic happened in the real world.

I apologize for submissions being. . well, offline for the time being. But that system is in the midst of some revamp.

-F.

Thou must be slain, my apologies! (5/26/2006 : 9:11:59 AM)

so the update's a little late, my bad. This time around we got some cleaned up release dates for a bunch of games, more game pictures (capcomers mostly, but also a few snks), profiles for the snk'rs, and the virtua fighters are all online with appearances and pictures.

Exmor also dropped some quotes in there for WH and KoF.

Enjoy, more to come.
-F.

It's alive, alive! (5/23/2006 : 3:27:26 PM)

Pictures, glorious pictures. The Bloody Roar cast should now be pictured, and I have made a number of crops and edits to other photos. I have also come to terms with acceptable size limits, so there should be less random chops of larger pictures. Again, I would like to iterate that I take no ownership/rightfulship/whatevership of any of the pictures, I just want to illustrate what stuff looks like. They are all hosted locally so I don't mooch anyone's bandwidth, and I have documented anywhere I have taken shots from in the credits region. I will heartily take any pictures down that are disproved.

A number of quotes were brought online from ExMortis' exploits in the last update, and I have added appearances, and some fights since. You may also note that I fixed the single quote bug in most (I hope) of the queries, so games like Fighter's History and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure are properly documented.

Mortal Kombat is still on my plate, as is a geneology chart section. Stay tuned.

-F.

What did you do to Nagi? (5/18/2006 : 12:45:34 PM)

I don't think I have to say that I've made some changes, but I've made some changes. Just above this is the spiffy new "of the moment" feature (which took entirely too long to code) and if you take a look in the series section, you'll see that its been renovated to match the updated format on the saga and event pages.

I also did some small updates to other pages to bring them up to speed with recent code changes.

There has also been some good db work, in the form of things that made themselves apparent while I was incorporating the latest changes, and last but not least some new images, and some properly trimmed images.

From this point forward its safe to assume every thursday will be an update, since Wednesday is formally FAB day in my schedule.

Enjoy,
-F.

They are comin' back, and fighting! (5/9/2006 : 10:13:32 PM)

I have found a temporary solution to the USB problem, so the site is back in action. Today I put ExMortis' latest subs online, and updated all of the Samurai Showdown pictures.

Tomorrow, I will have the Bloody Roar guys online, and maybe some Tekken: DR related updatage.

Thanks for reading/checking.

-F.

Will. . . not. . . yield! (3/11/2006 : 12:48:40 PM)

Though some refinement is still needed, I have finished all of the bios for Sam Sho per Samurai Showdown Official's specifications. I will need to hit up the faq for the Tenka folks. Exmor submitted a bunch of bombad WH and AODK bios that are up too.

My next goal will be to populate the MKers to make preps for Armageddon.

-F.

Give you my knock for justice! (2/2/2006 : 8:42:28 AM)

In liu of the ps2 release of Sam Sho Tenka and some personal need for distraction I've gone all Berserker Barrage on the Sam Sho section.

If anyone knows any particulars or such that I have botched, lemme know.

-F.

I'm praying for a healthy website (1/28/2006 : 2:45:24 PM)

Don't forget World Heroes.

Ready for action (1/28/2006 : 2:08:59 AM)

There is much work to do, but we are officially open for bsiness. I am your host, The Tru Fenix, and with any luck this will be some ride.

As it stands, many things remain sparsely populated, but rest assured we will be filling things out quickly. Mkae your way to Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur, Sango Fighter, KoF or Street Fighter sections to see this thing action.

Any questions, bring them to my attention.
-F.

Two for the show (1/26/2006 : 3:43:28 PM)

This will be the last documented "update" before we officially go live here at FAB. There are just one or two minor pages I want to have online before the grand opening, though even then there'll still be a heck of a lot of work to do content wise.

In the interest of quality over quantity I've trimmed the list of games to only those for which I was able to summon at least 1 character from my memory to associate. Not that they won't be back, but I think we'd all have a sight with more content across less pages than a crap load of pages with no or innacurate info.

Enjoy,
-F.

First Strike! (1/20/2006 : 3:44:24 PM)

Consider this the first official update, and field test of the news submission system. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken series' heavily updated. Tekken 5: Dark Revolution added to games list. Pictures added from various Namco outlets, and Sprite Rip City. See credits page for details. More to come. -F.
